Clement & Wynn was part of a larger program management
team with Bovis Lend Lease as the prime, selected to
oversee the completion of twelve new construction projects
for the Board of Regents University System of Georgia.
Clement & Wynn was directly responsible for providing
Program Management Services on two projects for Georgia
State University in Atlanta, namely a new Student Center
and parking deck.
The new 85,000 SF Student Center was over 3.5 million
over budget by the time Clement & Wynn was brought
in. The project had been on the architect’s drawing
boards for two years. Clement & Wynn was charged
to lead the project team and user group to a “compromise
solution” with a recast GMP, that enabled the
selected Construction Manager/Contractor to begin site
work as soon as possible. Closely monitoring the GMP
and total project budget, the University was later able
to add several key features to the project such as a
two-story bridge connector to the Urban Life Center,
and new chillers to increase the cooling capacity of
the shared central plant between both buildings.
The Student Center contains several meeting and performance
spaces, including an elegant multi-purposes 1,000 seat
ballroom, a full scaled catering kitchen, and a well
equipped, 425 seat auditorium. The concrete framed,
three-story, student fee-funded facility also houses
a large food court, an art gallery, and office and meeting
spaces for student organization and support services.
The Student Center and outdoor plaza occupy a prominent
site in the heart of the University’s downtown
campus. The facility was built simultaneously with a
new 400 space, precase structure, parking deck across
the street.
