Clement & Wynn was responsible for program management
and project management of this addition and renovation
to the Infirmary and the Counseling Center.
The design includes 6,000 SF of new construction in
a two-story facility for health services. A new entrance
and plaza has been created facing Howard-Herrald Hall
with a rounded portal leading to the small building
lobby. The position of the new facility on the site
avoids the need to relocate major utilities and creates
an interior courtyard. Trees will be replaced at the
site and other locations on the campus, per the City
of Atlanta requirements for tree replacement. A transparent
bridge connects the new facility to the northern single
story wing of the existing facility at the rear. In
this wing are common areas including a classroom, conference
room, break room, workroom and toilets to be shared
by health services and counseling services. Counseling
services will be housed in the totally renovated two-story
portion. A small Residence Hall with eight rooms will
be located in the renovated southern wing of the existing
single story area. The Lower Level will also be renovated
and waterproofed and will house the new mechanical equipment.
Storage areas for residents will be located on this
level.
