Clement & Wynn was involved in the planning of
the new Science Center beginning in 1992 and with the
initial programming of the facility requirements in
1994. Following a successful fund-raising program of
$22 million, construction began in 1998. The $30 million
project (total development budget) consisted of a three
-story wing finished in the Fall of 2000, containing
106,000 SF of new undergraduate science laboratories
and lab support spaces, classrooms, offices, lecture
halls, meeting rooms, computer labs. The renovation
of two adjoining buildings containing approximately
35,000 SF followed in the second phase and was completed
twelve months later in 2001.
Located on the historic quadrangle of the campus, the
Science Center was designed to comply with the contextual
characteristics of the surrounding buildings, while
remaining true to the technical functions of a twenty-first
century science building. Tapley Hall, the former science
building, was completely renovated and connected to
the new science wing with a new pavilion addition.
Clement & Wynn provided full program management
services, including on-site construction administration
and awarding of bid packages for furnishings and moveable
equipment. Using a team approach, we managed the project
through all phases of design and construction documents,
with detailed reviews of scope and cost at the completion
of each design phase. We managed the bid and award and
contract preparation. A new central plant for the science
center was commissioned in 2000 and will serve two nearby
existing buildings. |
